Figure Skating Gets Mixed Marks (The New York Times)

As Olympic skaters prepare to take to the ice in Sochi, The New York Times turns to Dartmouth’s Eric Zitzewitz for his thoughts about the credibility of figure skating’s scoring and judging systems. Zitzewitz, a professor of economics, has analyzed seven years of judging data, the article notes.
Zitzewitz tells the Times that under the current system, judges still give skaters from their own county higher marks and that judging bias is 20 percent higher than it was under the old system.
