Gilbert Welch, a professor of medicine at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice (TDI), writes about the influence his colleague, John Wennberg, has had on American health care policy over the past four decades. Wennberg, the founder of TDI and The Dartmouth Atlas is “the reason Dartmouth is on the health policy map,” writes Welch.

“But all Americans have benefited from his contributions: bringing science to bear on the practice of medical care, recognizing that too much medical care is a problem, and arguing that medical care should serve the needs of the patient, not the needs of the system,” Welch says.
