Finally Catching On (Sports on Earth)
August 16, 2013
For 10 years, Ed Lucas ’04, a former Big Green baseball standout and 2004 Ivy League Player of the Year, bounced around the minor leagues, holding on to his dream of playing major-league baseball, writes Sports on Earth. Lucas’ persistence finally paid off, as he was called-up from the minor leagues by the Miami Marlins in May, the article notes.
“Playing baseball just kind of got ingrained into myself,” Lucas tells Sports on Earth. “It’s kind of cliché, but everybody playing professional baseball loves the game to a certain extent. I’m not saying it’s always fun. It can be a grind playing in the minor leagues, even at Class AAA, after you’ve done it for a number of years. But at the end of the day, you’re still playing baseball for a living. … Ultimately, I knew I was blessed, and it would be hard to give that up for anything in the outside world.”
Lucas has become a steady fixture in the Marlins’ lineup this summer, playing mostly third base, the article notes.
