Carey, the John Wentworth Professor in the Social Sciences and chair of the Department of Government, says he is “not seeing a particularly happy ending here.”
With the violent crackdowns by police on supporters of President Mohamed Morsi, whom the military removed from office last month, an issue of grave concern is “whether we can have an influence on the military,” Carey says. “That seems to be a window that’s closing really fast.”
