25 New Faces of Independent Film (Filmmaker Magazine)
July 30, 2013
Jeremy Teicher ’10, director, co-producer, and co-writer of the 2012 film Tall as the Baobab Tree, is featured in Filmmaker Magazine as one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film.”
Tall as the Baobab Tree is a “smart, rhythmic, and altogether moving DIY effort about the attempts of two sisters to self-actualize in a rural Senegalese village,” writes the magazine.
“My deepest motivating factor for being a filmmaker is the ability to create a connection between people,” Teicher tells Filmmaker. “Recognizing narrative film’s ability to create a powerful emotional connection between an audience and any subject or character, no matter how foreign, developed as a result of my work in Senegal.”
Teicher’s next project, the article notes, is set in Eugene, Ore. The film, he says, is “a coming-of-age story set in the world of elite U.S. long-distance running.” Teicher is co-writing the film with fellow Dartmouth graduate Alexi Pappas ’12, who is now running professionally, the article notes.
