Cutting Forests Is Worse Than We Thought (Huffington Post)

The Huffington Post reports on a new study led by Andrew Friedland, the Richard and Jane Pearl Professor in Environmental Studies, that looks at the drawbacks of cutting down forests to provide wood as a power source.
The study examines what happens to the carbon that is stored deep in forest soil when trees are cut down. "Our paper suggests the carbon in the mineral soil may change more rapidly, and result in increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide, as a result of disturbances such as logging," says Friedland.
