Dartmouth Grad Fights Poverty Through Capitalism (Forbes)

ForbesIn a Forbes opinion piece, Maura Pennington ’08 writes about her Dartmouth classmate Fernando Orta ’08, who founded the financial services company Podemos Progresar in 2010. “In an effort to solve the multi-dimensional problem of poverty in Mexico, Podemos has a mission to create products and services that change people’s lives,” writes Pennington. Orta’s goal, she writes, is to “liberate people from the cycle of poverty.”

“As the company has evolved, the idea has evolved because of the needs we see in the community,” Orta says. “Microcredit is not enough.”
