Naked Statistics (NHPR)
February 07, 2013
As a guest on NHPR’s The Exchange, Charles Wheelan ’88, a senior lecturer and policy fellow at the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center and a visiting professor in the Department of Economics, discusses his new book, Naked Statistics, which takes a look at the real-world uses of statistics.
“Statistics are never smarter, wiser, or more honest than the people using them,” Wheelan tells NHPR, adding that statistics “are the tools that we use to interpret the data and they are everywhere. They’re in baseball, they’re in law enforcement, they’re in retail, and whether you’re in business or just an informed citizen you need to understand how these numbers are being used.”
