Curiosity’s Cousins: Autonomous Polar Robots Explore Earth’s Extremes (Wired)

WIREDA couple of robots designed by a team led by Thayer School of Engineering Professor Laura Ray are hard at work in some of the world’s coldest places, Wired reports.

Solar-powered Cool Robot and its younger cousin Yeti prowl the terrain of Greenland and Antarctica, gathering data above and below the surface. Currently, Yeti is in Antarctica, Wired writes, “peering beneath the ice and snow on Mt. Erebus, in search of steam-carved caves hiding in the volcano’s ice cap.”
