The New York Times reports that Philip J. Hanlon ’77 will be Dartmouth’s new president, taking office on July 1, 2013. Hanlon, a mathematician and provost of the University of Michigan, tells the Times that he’s “particularly excited to be leading Dartmouth in a period when I believe higher education is going to change in important ways.”
“I’ve certainly been asked to enter other searches,” Hanlon tells the newspaper, “but this is the only one I was interested in. It’s important to me because of the impact the college has had on my own life, coming from a small town in the Adirondack Mountains.”
