An article by Bloomberg Businessweek details a pilot program initiated by Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business Dean Paul Danos that incorporates online discussions and video lectures into Tuck’s core courses.
According to the article, Danos was inspired by first-hand experience with the methods of the Kahn Academy. “I was doing the lesson with [my granddaughter] and I thought, why can’t we do something similar?” Danos told Bloomberg Businessweek. “I told professors anything you can put up on a whiteboard should be put up in advance so you can have more time in the classroom for conversation and face-to-face interaction.”
Praveen Kopalle is one of the Tuck professors participating in the pilot program. Kopalle produced nine videos for one of his introductory statistics courses, which students accessed before the term began. “It gives me lots of diagnostic information that I can then link to class preparation,” Kopalle told Bloomberg Businessweek. “The classroom experience is much richer because of the experience, because we can dig deeper into the material.”
